Paperless is one of the four apps (along with email/messaging, calendar, and browser) that I use repeatedly every day. After trying the developer’s new app, Ikiru, for a week, Paperless remains my clear preference. The Paperless home screen shows not only my lists but also the first several items in each list. I usually have 3-4 lists of action items. With Paperless I can see the priority items at the top of each list with a single glance as soon as I open the app. In addition, when I open an individual list, Paperless shows more items on the screen than does Ikiru. So here too, I see more information at one glance without scrolling.
Ikiru does have features not found in Paperless. But for the ones that would be helpful to me, I have reasonably equivalent and effective work arounds in Paperless. I handle items with due dates by creating a list with entries prefixed with the due date in YY/MM/DD format and sort the list alphabetically to put it in chronological order. Of course, I have to manually keep track of the current date. Rather than reuse existing lists, I make a working copy of those lists and leave the original untouched. That also allows me to delete items that are not relevant in a specific situation rather than mark them complete. Ikiru also allows lists within lists (for example, a packing list within a trip to do list). But in those instances where I could use that feature, I prefer separate lists to improve visibility for each list.
Finally, while it may be a question of personal taste, I find the colorful themes and icons of Paperless more visually appealing than Ikiru. I also prefer check boxes in front of items on those lists that are check lists. And I prefer marking completed items with a check mark in the box rather than changing the font to strike through. So, at least for me, Paperless is the better choice.
